Qompass Solutions GmbH, based in Berlin, is a provider of innovative testing and analysis systems in the field of magnetic stray field measurement. This method can be used to reliably evaluate the qualitative actual condition of the reinforcing steel reinforcement or prestressing steel reinforcement in buildings.
The integrity of the reinforcing or pre-stressing steel is essential for the stability of buildings. However, due to normal ageing processes, this can be particularly affected by external influences. Poor corrosion protection of the prestressing steel during installation increases its probability of rupture, especially if chlorides penetrate the surrounding concrete due to diffusion through de-icing salts or aerosols. The result can be a serious and sudden fracture in the load-bearing structure of a building without prior notice.
The product family of Qompass Solutions GmbH comprises a broad spectrum of measuring systems to meet the requirements of various testing tasks on a wide variety of structures and thus to be able to test almost any prestressed concrete part non-destructively. The innovative Corropass Pro family starts with the mobile hand-held device and includes options to large units with a measuring width of three meters.
The company was founded in 2017 as a spin-off of Ingenieure für das Bauwesen Professor Hillemeier and Simon Knapp GmbH, who have specialised in non-destructive testing in the civil engineering sector - but above all in magnetic stray field measurement (prestressing steel crack detection) - and, with more than 30 years of practical experience in measurement, have a globally recognised expertise.
Qompass Solutions GmbH strives for the continuous further development of its products. In addition to the experience gained from the practical use of its equipment, it maintains a close exchange with teaching and research institutions, in particular the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW), the German Society for Non-Destructive Testing (DGfzP) and the Federal Institute for Materials Testing (BAM).

Chol-I Pak holds a doctorate in civil engineering and specialises in non-destructive testing of prestressing and reinforcing steel.
He studied Mechanical Engineering in Korea and then Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Berlin. After his highly successful degree he worked as a scientific assistant in the field of non-destructive methods for the detection of prestressing steel cracks in concrete. In his doctorate, which was awarded with distinction, he dealt with this topic in depth.
Chol I Pak has gained valuable practical experience at the Gesellschaft für das Bauwesen Professor Hillemeier und Knapp GmbH, where he contributed significantly to the development of measuring instruments in the above area. With the founding of Qompass Solutions GmbH, he is working intensively on the continuous optimization of methods and measuring instruments for the non-destructive detection of steel cracks in prestressing and reinforcing steel.
